The Southfields Musical Collective

The Southfields Musical Collective is delighted to be taking part in the Capability Brown Festival Weekend. With many staff and students living locally, it is a great opportunity to join with our community to celebrate this wonderful local space.

Southfields Academy has a rich history of musical performance and achievement. Under the guidance of Head of Music, Charles Pinder, students are encouraged to find their musical ‘voice’, whether instrumentally or vocally, and to develop and use this at a variety of live performances throughout the school year.

The current Musical Collective is comprised of students of all ages, from Year 7 to Year 13. Some are already pursuing a future in the music industry – one of our students has just been signed by Virgin EMI and recently returned from South Africa where he was making music videos.

For others, the experience of participating and performing with a live band gives a boost in confidence which they can then apply to all areas of their learning. We know this is effective because we have been recognised by the Incorporated Society of Musicians as one of the top 58 schools in England for our GCSE music results.

The Collective performs a wide variety of musical styles, along with some original content. We hope you enjoy this afternoon’s performance and all the other celebratory events this weekend.
